INSPIRATION OF THE INVENTION
Special Education pupils such as Autism have writing problems due to difficulty controlling fine motor and letter formation. Writing problems (dysgraphia) is a problem that can affect their achievement.
PROBLEM STATEMENT & CURRENT ISSUES
Pupils with writing problems will show lower grip scores compared to pupils without writing problems (Schneck 1991; Schneck & Henderson 1990). A study conducted by Rosenblum, Goldstand and Parush (2006) showed significant differences between skilled and unskilled writers in all ergonomic factors including pencil grip. This is supported by the statement of Abdul Rasid (2011) that the problem of inefficiency of eye and hand coordination while writing. This disability is detected when a student holds a pencil in an incorrect manner. As a result, students are unable to write.
INVENTIVENESS & NOVELTY
The results showed that the maturity of the students’ hand grips increased after using Qalamiy for 2 to 4 weeks. Neat writing was also produced based on the MHA test.
USEFULNESS & APPLICATION
Qalamiy is a lightweight adaptive aid product developed through research to address premature hand grip problems while writing.
IMPACT OF THE PRODUCT
The use of Qalamiy (adaptive tools – low -tech aids) can improve the ability to grip a pencil through the intervention of the biomechanical approach of special Education pupils.
