BRIEF TECHNOLOGY

TP 3-in-1™ is an innovation involves a specially formulated beverage consists of a mixture of tropical fruits with a therapeutic dosage of polyphenols to prevent risk of cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s Disease. 

INSPIRATION OF THE INVENTION

The high prevalence of poor mental health and poor cognition in Malaysian population requires high polyphenol intake in ready to consume form as a tools that can help to reduce the risk of the problem. 

PROBLEM STATEMENT & CURRENT ISSUES

6 out of 10 Malaysian adults are not consuming enough fruits and vegetables regularly; coincide with the rise of chronic diseases and poor mental health among Malaysians. As fruits and vegetables are the main source of polyphenol, unbalanced diet and hectic lifestyle make it hard to meet this nutrient requirement. Thus, a consumption of ready-to-drink fruit juice would help to replenish nutrient and fiber intake of the population.   

INVENTIVENESS  & NOVELTY

  • Special combination of 3 type of fruits, with high polyphenols content. 
  • Therapeutic doses tested in animal studies and clinical trial in human. 
  • Reformulation for low sugar version at 5% sugar.
  • Shelf life stable.

USEFULNESS & APPLICATION

Lab testing on animal indicated its potential to increase neuronal count, whilst clinical trial on human revealed its ability to reduce oxidative stress, improve short term memory and increased excretion of metabolites, facilitates autophagy of cells related to dementia. This product is suitable to be consumed by all ages above 1 year old of life.

The invention is a formulation for a delicious chocolate chip cookie that is high in fibre (15.8gram per 100gram) suitable for all kids. It was created as an alternative food product to increase fibre intake among children and help picky eaters, mainly children with ASD. It was reported that children in Malaysia consumed less than half of the fibre recommendation (Chong et al., 2017). In addition, the gluten-free ingredients are also suitable for families that opt for gluten-free products. It hopes to solve the constipation problem. Additional criteria of sugar free and gluten free were also developed for individuals with diabetes mellitus problems as well as those who practice a healthy diet.

Recovery of High-Purity and High-Value Sialic Acid

This invention recovers the high-value sialic acids from edible bird’s nest (EBN) processing by-products, through enzymatic hydrolysis, and acid hydrolysis. The technology has been patented

Production of Water-Soluble Elastin Peptide Powder

Introducing water-soluble elastin peptide powder from poultry skin, a novel functional ingredient with excellent antioxidative and antihypertensive characteristics for the use in the production of functional food and drinks, anti-aging cosmetics industry, pharmaceutical and regenerative medicine. 

Elastin, a structural, highly cross-linked, insoluble protein is found primarily in connective tissues and normally extracted from bovine neck ligaments, pig's aorta and mouse lungs. As Malaysia is largely self sufficient in Halal poultry meat production, we therefore explored different techniques to extract elastin from this new, Halal source of elastin coming from chicken skin waste and had successfully found the best method of extraction which is non-enzymatic, economical and involved the least chemical and time of extraction. The purity and quality characteristics of the resultant elastin powder were also proven to be comparable to that commercially available elastin from bovine neck ligament with evidence of excellent antioxidative and antihypertensive benefits. To our knowledge, this is the first report on elastin extraction from poultry skin.
